About the event

Educator John Meader  from Northern Stars Planetarium will be visiting the Hub with his mobile planetarium to teach the children all about the solar eclipse (which will take place in the afternoon on Monday, April 8). His presentation is geared for elementary aged students, but older students may enjoy the lesson as well! There is a recomended $5 fee per student, with a $15 cap per family for this event and registration* is required. *If you register, and are unable to attend, please email us at info@enrichmenthub.org or send us a FB message.

This will be a very special lesson, as Maine is in the direct path to experience a full solar eclipse. The next time this happens in Maine will be in the 2070's!  We are so pleased to be able to bring this experience to the homeschool community. Included below is more details and information about the presentation. We have a few more guidelines that usual for this event.

Due to the limited space in the domes, there will be three sessions of the class, 11:30, 12:45 and 2. The sessions are about 1 hour long. Mr. Meader has expressed the need for quiet in the nursery/vestry area during his presentations, so if you arrive early for your session, please use quiet indoor voices while you wait. We will have the courtyard gate and the courtyard available for outside play space. So, for those of you in the later sessions, we ask you to enter through the courtyard gates which are located on Elm Street, across from Waterville Public Library. If you are facing the front of the church, the gate for the courtyard is to your right.

Because of dome size, the Hub Team and Hub Helpers will escort the students in the dome, while parents may enjoy a social hour & coffee in the parent room upstairs. However, all students 5 and under must be accompanied by their parent in the dome. Mr. Meader does not recommend children under the age of 3 in the dome. If for some reason your child needs to leave the dome during the presentation, they will be escorted out through the tunnel by one of the Hub Team members and brought to their guardian. Because of the nature of the presentation, students who leave the dome will not have a chance to re-enter. So, we recommend using the bathrooms and getting sips of water before going in.
